How Electric Dog Fences Work

Have you been wondering, “What company offers electric dog fence installation near me?” Look no further than Dog Guard of South Carolina! Dog Guard Out of Sight Fencing utilizes a digital radio signal to keep your dog within selected boundaries. Details about our installation and training process are below so you can better understand what to expect.

Installation and Product Overview

Wire Installation

We use a hydraulic-driven trencher manufactured by DMR Trenchers, which is the best trencher on the market for installing underground wire. The trencher is on rubber wheels with a special blade that is only 3/4" in width. The blade makes a clean slice several inches into the ground and the equipment places the heavy duty wire into the bottom of this cavity, which results in the yard being only slightly disturbed. The blade is designed to cut through roots and rocks to prevent high spots that could make the wire vulnerable to aeration. Our goal is to keep your dog contained on your property 100% of the time and an important part of this is protecting your wire from damage from landscapers or self aeration.

Protected Areas

We will work with you to protect your pet from driveways, pools, and other dangerous areas. Your new Dog Guard system can also protect flower beds, shrubs, or other areas from your playful pet. Additionally, we have a wireless indoor system that can be purchased to keep dogs away from designated areas, such as a Christmas tree or to block entry into a mud room or prevent the dog from going up the stairs. We call this system our "baby gate eliminator". The unit can easily be moved from area to area as the dog learns to avoid certain areas.

Collar & Correction

A comfortable collar containing a small receiver is worn around your dog's neck. This receiver works with a unique radio signal. As the dog approaches the barrier, an appropriate stimulus level or warning is emitted. If the dog continues to advance, a second expanded field produces a higher level of correction to prevent escape. Correct levels can be adjusted by the owner to fit each dog and their tolerance for the correction. We will advise you on the level of correction for your dog, but the final decision is up to you, the owner. The owner has the option of changing these levels without needing a service call. (Adjustments can be from no correct to as high as 14,000 volts, which is the highest rated correction receiver on the market)

We invite you to read our customer's testimonials to see what our they say about this product and our dependable service.

Training

We will train your pet the day of installation, and in many cases have your pet off leash and walking in the yard. We use a 4 step process, which has been tested and proven successful. It is a combination of clicker training, tones, visual aids, and voice commands. We will make up games for your dog which will aid in the teaching process. The dog will not be punished as mistakes are made during the learning process, but your dog will be rewarded when appropriate behaviors occur.

As your dog becomes familiar with the new boundaries, we will introduce appropriate levels of stimulation. Our training program is designed to make your dog feel comfortable within the boundaries you have chosen as well as how to react if your dog goes too far. When your dog becomes familiar with their new surroundings and knows exactly where they are allowed to go (and where they are not allowed to go), then, and only then, will we correct your dog.

Your pet is on average only at the level of a 2.5 year old human baby. We do not correct your pet until the dog is fully aware of why they are being corrected and how to escape the correction. In most cases, by the end of the day, we should be able to release your dog from its leash and let them roam without fear of them leaving the yard (under your supervision). But this does not mean you can completely leave your dog alone in the yard just yet. At first, we do not look for speed when your dog makes the correct decision. We only look to make certain the correct decision is made. Speed comes later. The training will be completed by the end fo the day, but you will need to reinforce the commands which have been taught. This will further teach your dog to feel more confident. The training process does not involve punishment, but the use of positive and negative reinforcement. Punishment usually occurs after the dog has made a mistake. The reason punishment usually does not get good results is because your pet has refocused on something other than the mistake that has occurred. Positive and negative stimulation is more effective because it occurs as the behavior occurs. As a professional dog trainer, Chuck Dubis will teach the owner and pet how to get fast results in the shortest amount of time.

We have over 4,200 pets successfully contained with the Dog Guard Out of Sight Fencing System in the Upstate and Midlands of S.C. If necessary, additional training will be provided at no cost as necessary to contain your dog. If we cannot contain your pet at first, all we ask is to be allowed to further work with your pet. If we cannot contain your pet within the first 90 days, we will make a full refund of the purchase price.

This is a brief description of the training process. Chuck will go into more detail with the pet(s) and owner(s) while our professional crew is installing the Dog Guard system.

We do not warrant the above training suggestions. If you have a behavior issue with your dog that may be threatening to the public, you may need to consult a veterinarian or a certified dog behaviorist.
